Spirit Breaker Weird Mechanics in Patch 7.41f
Valve updated his kit with a ridiculous innate ability and a weird skill that completely breaks the standard rules of Dota. Right now, he is one of the most annoying Position 4 soft supports you can pick to climb out of Crusader.
The biggest change is his innate ability called Empowering Haste. It gives him an extra 8% movement speed buff for 2 seconds every time he stuns an enemy hero. Even hitting creeps gives a 2% boost. The broken part about this skill is that it completely unlocks the movement speed limit in Dota 2. If you charge through a huge wave of creeps and hit multiple heroes, these speed bonuses stack up independently. Since Greater Bash damage scales directly with how fast you move, landing a bash at the end of a long charge can deal insane burst damage instantly without even buying luxury items. Phase Boots, Shadow Blade, and Drums of Endurance are more than enough to delete squishy support heroes.
Planar Pocket - Sacrificing yourself for the carry
Then there is Planar Pocket, which is arguably the weirdest skill in his arsenal right now. When you activate it, Barathrum distorts the area around him, gaining a massive 75% magic resistance. For 6 seconds, this skill acts like a physical lightning rod for single-target targeted spells. If an enemy Lion tries to cast Finger of Death or Hex on your carry, Planar Pocket forces that spell to redirect and hit Barathrum instead. Because of your high magic resistance buff during the skill, you barely take any damage, completely wasting the enemy's big ultimate cooldowns.
To use this effectively in your ranked matches, stop charging into five heroes with no backup. Make sure to press Bulldoze right before your charge hits the target to maximize your status resistance and speed pool. If you see your carry about to get jumped by targeted stuns like Vengeful Spirit's Magic Missile, immediately run into the area and activate Planar Pocket. You will absorb the stun, keep your carry alive, and easily turn the teamfight around with your Nether Strike.
